Speed kills

As my husband was away officially & wanting a change from driving my Toyota Rav4, I was driving his BMW for the past 2 days. *I am not gaga about cars...for me it is just a means of transportation.* I never realised I was speeding until I narrowly missed another vehicle ahead of me! That lead me into thinking some of the experiences I've had / have heard on speeding.

Tale #1

The worse one on the above topic was with a friend of mine who happened to be involved in a freak accident. She was waiting to turn right from the main road & thought she had enough time to turn before the forthcoming car. Unfortunately she misjudged. As a result, the car banged her car which went spinning & hit 2 padestrians & both of them died. She had minor injuries and the driver & the passenger in the other car also didnt have major injuries. But the padestrians were caught unknown & sadly it had cost their life. Ofcourse even though this accident resulted cos of misjudgement, it was also due to the fact that the other car was much over the speed limit.

Tale #2

This one is not so bad as there were luckily no loss of life. A couple of friends went to see off another friend early morning to the airport. On their return they just decided to have a race between them! One of them (who had actually put his car for sale) sped way past the other....zooming! But very unexpectedly another vehicle just in front of him decided to take the right & indicated. So he had to cut his speed drastically! But phew he was over speeding! And boom! his car went & hit the other. Luckily no major losses but then his car was a total write off!

Tale #3

We were travelling for a cricket match (Aus vs SA) & we wanted to get there before the other car! Ya ya racing again! So one of my friend who was driving was speeding & we were all encouraging him to go faster just for the hec of it. And there was a BIG pothole caused by the previous days' rain. He decided to avoid it & hence had to go on the opposite lane & there was another fast car in the opposite lane! He got tense & lost control! The car took a 360 degree turn for got dragged for less than half kilometer & got stuck in the fence in the opposite side! Phew! It was just a pure miracle than none of us even got a scratch. (except lots on the car ofcourse!)

So my dear fellow bloggers, watch ur speed & be wary when u drive. Take care.....

I know it feels really good to drive fast. But somehow people fail to realize that when you are on the road that you are invariable responsible for other peoples lives also. The road does not belong to you alone. My husband always tells my kids that any fool can drive over 100 miles per hr, but it takes an intelligent person to drive 65.

I don't do speeding when my little one is inside... :-)

when comes to driving under influence yes all the drivers who drink will say invariably "I can drive safe even after 4 r 5 drinks" including me, but I avoid drive after drink all the time :-)

Ya we need to speed with care..My husband (on one ofhe worst weather conditions) drove at his usual speed(he should have driven at less speed), and on a hilly road, car skidded and took a 360 turn and hit a tree from the rear end.Thank God, He did not get hurt, but the car was totalled...thalaikku vanthathu thalaippaagooda poocchu

Sad...Always happens but being cautious is better! I had a sad accidne t which didnt hurt me physically but otherwise it did n this was because I had a sunstroke n I was pillion on bike...Thankfully it was not some romeo guys bike but my cousins bike n I told my dad to take me to my friends place in tht bike!!!

OK tht apart...I am a crazy driver says the few who know me n dont have a license...Dont drive at all, was just doing some weekend driving sessions in India...
But irrespective of whethe ryou drive or not, things can get very ugly!
    Glad you are fine!! :)

Do you know how many people must think you are nuts to not get all a gaga over driving a BMW? I will admit a little jealousy just because I have heard they are such a smooth ride. If you saw what I drive, you might even feel sorry for me.

My Mister has a 79 corvette that he inherited from his father and I love the pick up that that car has. Darn that silly speed limit keeps me from having any real fun with it though.

I have had a couple of interesting spins thanks to living in a place with winter snow. It is such a helpless feeling to be spinning and/or flying with only prayer to protect you. Most of the time it is not my driving that starts the problem, but the idiot that thinks because he has a big 4 wheeler that he need not slow down on icy conditions. When he finds out differently everyone on the road is in danger. Another reason I like working at home.

A BMW........ The best thing I can say about what I drive is "It's payed for!" (Which really is more important to me than what it looks like) Enjoy your nice car for me okay?

speeding and me poles apart. i hate it, cant even stand someone else on the road do it. there's enough trouble on the road without speeding, why invite trouble?

i suggest anybody who speeds be given the punishment of driving in Agra....one of the most crowded places i know. In that Inching traffic, the person will learn patience and also a lot of safety skills *wink*

    Patty,
Ha ha! Ya ofcourse BMW is a good car to drive around & damn smooth too...like my hubby says it is indeed any drivers' pleasure. But if u were to look @ the car as just a means of transportation, any car in running condition serves the purpose! :)

    Vakil,
I shd've also linked up ur mysore car accident here...wid've been more nice with the pics!! Periya car ellam chumma....meaning as long as the car can take me from point A to point B, yendha car-a irutha enna?! As long as it is not a big dabba car it is ok! Thats y i said I;m not gaga abt cars! Same applicable to cricket...yennaku cricket nallay pidikathu!! I went fr the match cos my friends & hubby were going. Seri thaniya irruka vaydam solitu than ponen! Ofcourse I did enjoy the same. But I dont like wasting time watching cricket!!!

u r absolutely correct. Not only does it involve our own safety but of the other users of the road as well.

    Patty,
oopsy, thats scary.....damn those sort of drivers. Its terrible having such drivers around...I think they need to be more compassionate. Sure shall enjoy the car for u as well. I know its so nice to have a car thats fully paid! :)

    Madhu,

I stopped thinking abt driving my car after i went straight to the median and abt to hit in the road in one of busiest road in chennai with my beloved friends in it. I got so scared and decided not to drive a car atleast for other ppl's benefit. Speed mattum illainga olunga car otta theriyalanaalum car-a thoda koodadhu. I just lost all confidence in driving a car after that incident.

I drive fast in my bike and was of the opinion that car is a bigger vehicle and bike is small and I can’t affect anyone driving my bike. But that opinion of mine was also proved wrong one day. I was driving fast in another famous road in chennai and suddenly a lady wanted to cross the road (suddenly!). She just showed her hand and started walking across. A guy in front of me in pulsar (or some huge bike) stopped for her and I went and hit at the back of the bike and he went flying (really!) from his bike seat and laid flat on the ground and his bike fell down. That lady was shouting at him and nothing happened to her actually. That guy he didn’t shout at me ! I was there telling so many sorry(s) to him : ( I felt really bad for whatever I did. He didn’t get hurt but he could have !! Actuallaa I was not that fast and I never thought my little scooty could make such a big impact ! From then on I try to maintain good distance between vehicles and maintain my speed according to the vehicle in front…

hey there:)...howz u? long time na!

reading ur post brought back the rather horrific memory of a dog that was run over by the car we hired to take us out during my trip last week :-( ... it was really sad and unavoidable in a way...but i'd rather not think about it today of all days...

i don't see the whole thrill in speeding...y risk our lives...or others...

incidently related to the car trip i just mentioned, i must tell u abt road signs to warn ppl not to speed on the highway...lol...they kept me amused..."be gentle on curves!"..."I want u darling but not so soon"..."overtakers beware of undertakers!!"...hmmm!!!
