Reservations

I just hate this policy on reservations. It's the heights....on one side the Government tries to abolish the caste & religion by promoting inter caste marriages etc & on the other side creating reservations for the OBC's, SC/ST etc! Does it make sense?

This thing on the castes starts right from the time the child is admitted in school. Of what concern is it to the school authorities which caste / religion the child belongs to?

India is known for its cultural diversity. We are probably one of the very few countries in this world where there are so many different culinary styles, languages, cultures & castes co-exist together. That is a beauty by itself. Can't we leave it as is & why politicise this issue?

We need to be producing world class professionals & I believe we have the caliber in us. Whom are we actually favouring by having these sort of reservations? Why should caste come in when there is quality? Do we realise that we would be achieving sub-standard results due to these reservations? The deserving are deprived of opportunites. Just because they belong to the FC, is it a mistake they have committed? Or are the ones born as SC/ST/OBC more luckier? Qualification needed is caste and not merit? I just can't understand.

Anyway, here are Mr Premji's views on these reservations. Hope he has sent it to the Government!

Wipro chairman Mr. Ajim prem ji's comment on reservation:

I think we should have job reservations in all the fields. I completely support the PM and all the politicians for promoting this. Let's start the reservation with
our cricket team. We should have 10 percent reservation for muslims. 30
percent for OBC, SC/ST like that. Cricket rules should be modified
accordingly. The boundary circle should be reduced for an SC/ST player. The
four hit by an OBC player should be considered as a six and a six hit by a
OBC player should be counted as 8 runs. An OBC player scoring 60 runs
should be declared as a century. We should influence ICC and make rules so
that the pace bowlers like Shoaib Akhtar should not bowl fast balls to our
OBC player. Bowlers should bowl maximum speed of 80 kilometer per hour to
an OBC player. Any delivery above this speed should be made illegal. Also
we should have reservation in Olympics. In the 100 meters race, an OBC
player should be given a gold medal if he runs 80 meters. There can be
reservation in Government jobs also. Let's recruit SC/ST and OBC pilots for
aircrafts which are carrying the ministers and politicians (that can really
help the country.. ) Ensure that only SC/ST and OBC doctors do the
operations for the ministers and other politicians. (Another way of saving
the country..) Let's be creative and think of ways and means to guide INDIA
forward...Let's show the world that INDIA is a GREAT country. Let's be
proud of being an INDIAN.. May the good breed of politicians like ARJUN
SINGH long live...

God save us & India!

Funny one. I am not sure about whether Azim would have said all that, though. Your post has spurred my next post. Will post in a day or two.

Let us love one another, human to human. If we all reached out in love it would go far to decrease the need to pigeon hole everyone into class sytems. Every human being is born, and each dies. Those two facts should level the playing field, but unfortunately our egos get in the way and we all have to prove our betterment. Sad, but true.

    Jawaharlal Nehru on Reservations
On the 27th of June 1961 Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru wrote to the Chief Ministers of the day as follows:
I dislike any kind of reservations. If we go in for any kind of reservations on communal and caste basis, we will swamp the bright and able people and remain second rate or third rate. The moment we encourage the second rate, we are lost. This way lies not only folly, but also disaster.

Nice post, I also wanted to write about it..Earlier reservations were OK as people were not given equal opportunities, but now it should be abolished so that everyone gets equal rights to compete!!!

Alright so Mr.Premji is on fwds these days...
Hv been reading a lot abt this everywhere....read somewhere that the upper caste is still not interested in equality....what a crap? People who write on such issues, hv they actually ever been to the situations personally or hv they ever done anything constructive for the society and the country, just coz there is freedom of speech, the crap is on and on....Read somewhere just coz the country has never been keen on the developement of the socially deprived, we haven't had PM or a President from that class, if those given reservations then even then if they cudn't make most of it, who's fault is that? I think we hv already lost it completely....Hell with the merits coz who knows even after all that ur seat's already taken on the name of reservation policy.
