Egyptian Extravaganza

This post details the wonderful holiday my hubby & I had @ Egypt. Although we went there in 2001, the memory is still fresh as ever.

Actually I had written a detailed travelogue as soon as we returned from the trip & for some strange reason I cant seem to find the same. :( Anycase Im trying to recall as much as I can from our trip & post the same.

Day 1 -
We were based @ Cairo & reached there @ bfast time. The first day we visited the magnificent Pyramids & the Sphinx & were totally spell bound @ the beauty of the pyramids. We also went to the shopping area & did shopping. All Indians are called Amitabh Bachan!!! There is tremendous amount of bargaining that can be done & I loved shopping all the curios etc. Late evening we went fr the sound @ light show of the pyramids & the Sphinx, which is evident from the attached picture.

Day 2 -
We visited the famous musuem & saw all the treasures of King Tutenkhaman. Wow! That was just amazing. Soooo much of gold! Unbelievable. That nite we went for a dinner cruise along the River Nile & guess what....there was belly dancing as well!!! We throughly enjoyed the same & also danced along!! It was fun & quite tiresome too!

Day 3 -
We went to Alexandria & saw the Roman theatre, museum, light house, palace etc. It was a full days' trip. We returned to Cairo & strolled around the city.

Day 4 -
The next day's target was Port Said. We went by road & the most beautiful thing was to drive parallel to the Suez Canal. There was a striking contrast of the road, the desert & the canal. And the colours were just too good...black road, golden desert & beautiful blue.

Day 5 -
Always wanted to visit an oasis & hence went to Al-Fayum Oasis & also visited Lake Quaron. On the way back went to the step pyramid of Zoser etc.

Day 6 -
Whole day @ Cairo where we went to Pharonic village as we didnt have time to visit Luxor & Aswan. Did yet another Nile cruise.

There were many other interesting anecdotes but dont want to mention all of them here & make this a long post. Hence just given the gist of our memorable trip.

Shopped a lot wherever I could! :) Bought beautiful papyrus paintings. They were so beautiful that I wanted to paint one myself. I was able to get plain papyrus & I ventured into painting the same & this is how they came out. Unfortunately it is not v,bright in the picture but it has nice bright colours & they have a glitter even now.

The first painting has the names of me & my hubby in Hieroglyphics. :)

The second painting has Horus & is supposed to depict a scene from their mythology which I cant remember correctly.

I wish I had bought more plain papyrus. As I was unsure whether I cud paint nicely on them, I restricted to buying just 2 of them. Wish I had bought more of them!

And this is how they adorn my house currently.
